From this morning's email:

Dear Jeff,

Congratulations!  I am very pleased to inform you that your application to the Ph.D. program in Computer Science at Rice University has been accepted.  Your official offer of admission to Rice will be arriving shortly [...], but as the Chair of the department's Graduate Committee, I also wanted to let you know and to congratulate you on your admission.

I'm headed to Houston next weekend for the "Getting Acquainted" weekend.  Woohoo!

I plan to work with this guy on this project.  It seems like an ideal fit to me.

I got my GRE prep CD from ETS today.  Too bad I took the test back in October or November... and got in to grad school already.

Jeff, that is SWEET!  Dude's balder'n Isaac.  So if that's any indication of how much he can drink...

at the prospective grad student weekend.  It's been pretty fun so far.  Yesterday, we heard about most of the faculty's research.  Possibly most visible is development in Java, including generics (which included a long discussion of why they still suck in Java).  There's another group working on improving i/o throughput in virtualization setups.  it seems like everybody has a strong preference for relevant research.  fun stuff.

on the down side, i've barely slept for the last few days.  last night went down due to over-consumption of coffee yesterday.  boo!  i guess I'll do that again today so I can make it through tonight's entertainment.
